Background Remover uses an on-device AI model (Google's MediaPipe Selfie Segmentation) to detect the main subject in a photo and separate it from its background, similar to how commercial background-removal services work. Because the model runs entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly, no image is ever uploaded to a server — the AI processing happens on your own device. This works best on photos with a clear person or product in focus, such as profile pictures, portraits and simple product shots. If the AI model cannot load, for example due to a slow or blocked connection, the tool automatically switches to a simpler edge-color detection method so you still get a usable result. The output is a PNG file with a transparent background, ready to drop onto any new background or design.
🛠️ How to Use Background Remover
Click the upload area and choose a photo, then press "Remove Background". The tool loads a small AI model the first time you use it, which can take a few seconds, and then analyzes the photo to work out which pixels belong to the subject. Once processing finishes, you'll see a before-and-after preview with the background removed and replaced with transparency. Click the Download button to save the PNG. For the cleanest results, use a photo where the subject is well lit and reasonably separated from the background.
